Preparing for 2011 Lacrosse

FireUp Eagles!  … Welcome back to school.  Freshmen, welcome to the High School lacrosse program.

As of this post, there are 176 days until our first formal practice of the 2011 season.  (Be in the tunnel, ready to go at 6:59p, Monday, February 21.)

It’s always been our adage that to prepare for lacrosse in the Spring, it’s best to play a Fall Sport.  The conditioning, regularity, discipline, relationships, diversity, and fun make that the best way to train even if you view lacrosse as your primary sport.  Godspeed to all of you who are participating on an HCS team this Fall.  There’ll be plenty of lacrosse after your Fall seasons before we hit the fields next Spring.

If you aren’t in a Fall Sport, there are a number of activities in which to engage.  The “best thing” varies by athlete.  Any one or combination of Coaches Flynn, Teeter, Bergman or Kaufman would be glad to talk with each athlete or athlete and their parents in coming up with a personal plan.  We’ve conducted these chats with only a few athletes so far.  Level of commitment is not a barrier to figuring out what is the best way to be ready to contribute in 2011.

First, as posted last week (see below) Hoffacker Zone training is available to all high school women out-of-season athletes for an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30p on campus.  It’s free.  We know a few of you have already commenced this training.  Good job!  We’ve heard from several more who are going to start right after Labor Day.  Great!  We encourage you to approach that training with a regular discipline for several weeks at a time to get the best results.  On some days, we’ll conduct some informal stick work to fill the gap between the end of school and the beginning of that training.  Feel free to organize yourselves on that while staying away from the flow of visitors and athletes participating in Fall Sports.  (The area west of the parking lot is rarely used by others.)

Next, the Coaches are available on a “come as you can” basis to work on various aspects of the game: Goalie, Individual D, Shooting, 8 meters, or just pure stick work.  Anyone wanting “private lessons” with Coach Kaufman can organize those directly with her at PaigeK@usa.com.  Anyone organizing a group to meet with Coach Kaufman, Coach Flynn or any other Coach will be covered as part of the program.  As always, individual Goalie training will be covered as a team expense.

Next, Coach Bergman will once again organize and coach our indoor presence in the IndyChixLax league at Off the Wall.  (Don’t be confused by other indoor offerings from Indy Indoor Lacrosse (IIL) at OTW or the IndyChixLax  at the SportZone.)  We will have one or two teams depending on the number on our team who sign up.  The Indoor sign up forms are available in an email that will be sent separately right after the one that linked you to this page.  (If you are reading this page after being linked from the HCS web page or FaceBook and are interested in Indoor, send Coach Teeter a request at CTeeter625@gmail.com to have the forms forwarded.)

Also, there is Sunday afternoon Fall Ball hosted by the Brebeuf Program.  This is a fantastic venue that is very popular with other teams across our league.  You are paired with athletes from other teams versus just the HCS squad. The Fall Ball sign up forms are available in an email that will be sent separately right after the one that linked you to this page.  (Again, if you are reading this page after being linked from FaceBook and are interested in Fall Ball, send Coach Teeter a request at CTeeter625@gmail.com to have the forms forwarded.)

For non-senior athletes who consider lacrosse their primary sport, there is an Indianapolis Club being started this Fall.  We’ll have more information on this in a couple weeks.  There are tryouts, practices, and tournaments throughout the Fall and winter leading up to our own season at the end of February.  Club type fees will apply.

And, once Fall Sports are complete, in early November, we’ll run a Mini Camp of Shootapaloozas and a LOT of stick work.  It’ll be fine to come one day and not the next.  … very informal.  We’ll also host the Middle School athletes who play lacrosse.

Our Call-Out will be in early December.

We’ll condition as a team from mid-January thru mid February.

We’ll conduct our first official (required) practice on Monday, February 21.

Ha!  We’ll play our first game on March 15.  (Underclassmen will scrimmage other teams in the week prior.)  If you are already working the Spring Break calendar, we’ll have a game on March 29, practice on March 30, and be off from March 31 thru April 10.  We’ll practice again on April 11.

Do not hesitate to contact Coach Teeter with any questions about anything lacrosse along the way.  CTeeter625@gmail.com  (317) 750-5098

Hoffacker Schedule - Fall 2010 - Women's Out of Season

Hey, FireUp!

Lot more to follow right here in the coming weeks.

For now, we want everyone to know that the Hoffacker Training (described in earlier posts and on the HCS Athletic pages) for Fall 2010 for women in out of season sports is being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30p.  Meet in the Athletic Building lobby.  Eric Burnicle, a Hoffacker trainer, will direct you from there.

Godspeed to all of you participating in Fall sports.

Remember, "Champions are created in the offseason."
